Developer Strategy
Austin, TX
Barton works at Dell Technologies where he is currently helping to create and then execute the corporation’s first comprehensive developer strategy. During his 10+ years at Dell Barton has worked in a variety of groups including their Hyperscale cloud team, the Office of the CTO, Dell’s professional services division and most recently in the laptop and workstation division where he was responsible for the division’s Linux-based systems. Within the various groups Barton’s focus has been developers, open source and DevOps. Early on at Dell Barton founded Project Sputnik, a line of Ubuntu-based developer laptops and workstations. The effort began as an exploratory project and with the help of the community it has grown from a project to a product, to a portfolio of high-end Linux-based systems.

Prior to Dell, Barton spent 13 years at Sun Microsystems. His last position was in Sun’s Open Source program office where he managed the relationships with Sun’s Linux partners. Barton began his professional career out of college with a four year stint in Tokyo at Sony in their UNIX workstation group. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Barton attended Williams College and Harvard Business School. He is a single father of three teenage kids and as a result doesn’t have time for much else. Barton is based in Austin, Texas.
